Just this great mix of yellow and green makes it already eyecatching.

This incredibly captured spider connecting these two parts of the environment is making this image outstanding.

Great capture.
Nice presentation, too.

Agree with herrwestphal!

Still would try a black frame instead.

Great work!

Looking forward to see you comment more! ;)

I'm arachnophobic.......... Nice photo, great detail it jumps up and .. and.. makes me scared.. :) Its a great capture considering you got the spider going from one plant to another and the bright colours work really well!

Compostion and colors are wonderful!
Great capture.
I agree for different frame color.
I also think that the yellow part is a bit oversaturate, you can try with a selective color modification.

@moser, blackshad
The frame is an average of the photo itself, something I thought I'd try since I almost always do a black frame.

@androx
The yellow is natural, I didn't adjust the saturation at all.

Very nice close up, though I am surprised no1 has mentioned the over-exposure. Check the histogram, it is quite hysterical on the white bits on the flower, but even the yellow. I also agree with Andrea about over-saturation.

@roadrunner
I think this may be a matter of differences in our respective monitor calibrations. There are some white bits, but I don't see them detracting from the image. This was full sun. The yellow is about as saturated a yellow as you can get, but it matches the true color of the flower in my monitor.

love everything in this photo..wow

Things may indeed look different on different monitors, but the histogram looks the same on all ;) . The histogram of this picture climbs towards the right edge and the peak is way out of the frame. That indicates over-exposed areas. The same happens in the under-exposure part on the left, but this is okay in this case, as these are the dark green parts at the background

I understand histograms. How would you suggest dealing with that? The dynamic range on a digital camera is about five stops, so the fact that some is over and some under exposed means I'm right in the middle. I could have stopped down the aperture but then the shutter speed would likely be too slow and the underexposed areas larger... the majority of the shot would be too dark. In this case, removing the white bits in post removes the glistening aspect of the petals. I tried it, it doesn't look as good. The only way I know of handling it would be merging multiple exposures. Anyway, I'll let you have the last word, if you like.

I think one or two stops down would have been better. That would actually increase the speed, not decrease it (assuming that you were on 'aperture priority'). The yellow flower would have been properly exposed, and the green background darker, which is okay in this case.

The other thing is that under-exposed areas are easy to photoshop, but burned areas you cannot save. I would always go for darker than brighter if there is a contrast.

Please dont get this wrong, I like your macro photography and glad to see more nature photographers here. This is only my opinion as an observer, its fair enough if it is not worthy :)

Rest assured, I don't get you wrong. This is what it's all about... the best of gfxartist in action.

The only problem with stopping down is that the larger the aperture the narrower the DOF. When chasing a subject like this I try to go as small as possible.
