Description

So there is a story that goes along with this shot concerning the breaking of my camera.
=========================
I was in California for a job interview at Rocketdyne in Canoga Park, which is a northern portion of Los Angeles. So I decided that right after my interview I would goto Topanga Beach which is next to Malibu and get some photographs of the ocean. Knowing there were rocky outcrops there I was excited to get a shot involving them. I took about 10 photos total and then decided to move a little closer. There was a raised sand area next to these rocks, on which I was standing and water would only get up to it and quickly recede. I decided it was safe before moving to this spot too. As you can imagine, a giant wave came unexpectedly and got me soaking wet and knocked over my tripod. The next thing I know I look down and my camera is in the Pacific Ocean. I picked it up immediately, turned it off, and began wiping it off frantically. Sadly the D50 had taken it's last picture and no longer functions.

Right now my sights are set on a D300 once I graduate. I took a job elsewhere, but in Arizona which is equally as gorgeous. Had the camera not fallen in the water, I would have gotten some more amazing shots in California besides this one.

I hope you enjoy this photo, as it is an homage to my dead camera.

========================

I have a ton of more photos that I have yet to upload here so I will still be uploading regularly, just older shots taken a couple months ago.

Honestly I wish I had more time to take photos cause I am not quite happy with this one (mostly the highlights in the upper right) but it's what I got and a tribute to my dead camera that served me so well!

Please take a look at the Larger B+W and Color version's below!

Yeah, sorry about your camera. I would have cried, my camera is my baby.
At least you saved the pictures.
I hope your d300 works out for you. My brother owns one, and I've been pretty impressed by it.

Sad story, but what a requiem - a very nice shot.
Too bad indeed about the top right (well, too bad about the camera really). :(
It wont happen again in Arizona. There's hardly any water here. :p

Tough one with the camera! :p

Great pictures!

Love the effect of the long exposure on the water.

Slight distortion on the horizon level.

Can you please share your EXIF-data with us?

For a camera's last gasp, it's not a bad way to go; at least its not a snapshot! Beautiful! I can't decide whether I like the bw version more or the color.

Fantastic image Dan. I'm so sorry to hear about your camera. It's a photographer's worst nightmare! I suppose the silver lining is that you captured THIS image. It's gorgeous. I enjoy your choice of shutter speed, the composition, and colors.
