Description

Taken on vacation in Mexico shortly after Beach Pail Warrior #1 by Elite workster.

Last year I took Surf's Up on the same beach. This year the waves were much bigger. There were times when the breaking waves were too big for safe swimming and I told my kids that they had to come out of the water.

I know (or at least I hope) that this looks pretty crazy, but this child is actually playing in a shallow section where it's perfectly safe because the waves are breaking further out.

Please check out the larger version.

EDIT - updated with reduced sharpening.

A nice capture. If the boy on the left was on the right (keeping his direction), composition would be the best. Just my idea :) 7/7

Great capture! :)

Different to the previous and still I can't decide which one I prefer.

The water is really boiling! ;)

I would use a thinner white line in the black frame.

Looks like a crazy situation for a child to be in !

Great timing !

Thanks for the comments.
everseen - I've linked an alternate version with the boy on the left. It was ready to go because I just about published it like this and then decided at the last minute to put him on the right.

moserArtist - You're right about the frame so I changed it. Did things in a different order (I usually build the frame after reducing the size, this time I just shrunk a larger version with frame) and it messed me up.

A-H - IT's supposed to look crazy but it's really quite safe. Small children were running back and forth as the waves came in and out, but they were on a ledge out of the big stuff. (This is not one of my kids by the way - mine are big enough now that they're more likely to save Dad rather than vice-versa.)

Cool capture. Good choice on B/W.

The larger waves look severely greyed out; no contrast.

An interesting photo Don. It appears to be over-sharped but it would seem that this was your intention and it produced an interesting texture and grainy appearance. I prefer the boy on the left.

Great action capture. Composition works well in both versions. I agree its over-sharpened. Something between the large version and this one would be optimal.

I have reduced the sharpening. I was pleased with the sharpening of the larger version but I agree that the previous gfx-size version didn't look quite right.

A good capture. I prefer this shot over the previous as it captures the action better. I might try working on the grays, maybe with selective colors, to brighten them a bit. The waves in particular look too dark.
