Description

This is a commisioned portrait that will be used as a website background and a cd-cover.

It's been changed a multiple times based upon the clients wishes, especially the magic - that went from being a constellation to a scorpion to a phoenix.
It was a real challenge on my patience, but the clients are happy with it, and so I'm happy too. :)

PLEASE look the full version! The 716 px restriction doesn't do justice to this painting at all! I uploaded a closeup above though.

It was made in Photoshop CS3. The girl in the painting is the owner of the website.
I'd also like to thank Elite, GFXartist sponsor Wallace for helping me with the magic. Thank you. :)

Thanks for looking! Comments and crits are very welcome. :)

Lovely work, you did a wonderful job on the water and rocks. The color palette is also lovely.

I notice that this bears a most uncanny resemblance to "LotusWood" by Jonathan Earl Bowser. I'm curious if it was an inspiration or something the client wished for.

Thank you so much Daviash! I'm happy to hear I'm someones favourite artist.
liiga: It was the clients wish to have her positioned like in Bowsers artwork, with the similar dress and magic. Thanks for your kind words. :)

Very Nice work. Love the dress, and the way it melds with the water. Nitpicking, i'd say the stars could be more separated, but otherwise. Great Job

Mmm, quite beautiful. The dress, in particular, strikes me, with its nuanced variations in color and elegant contours--and, of course, the way it blends with the water is a great detail. I believe her head is slightly too large, but I'm pretty sure I do that all the time. :p

Wow!!!! This is awesome Sandra. I am totally impressed. The colors, illumination, composition, and mood all great. One minor crit. I don't think she should be looking toward the viewer but rather somewhat toward the Phoenix.

You should be very proud of this. My congratulations.

Great work and nice idea. I am a bit disturbed by clouds in the background which are too much detailed to me. They would gain of being blurred or somehow more misty. Anyway top marks

Lovely work. The green colours of the woman really go well in front of the blues. And she merges well with the sea too...seamless.

Wallace: Thanks. I think they are happy. Or at least, statisfied. :p
yerffej: Yes you might be right. There's a lot of things I would have loved to fix. The stars are some of them.
chickenfingers: lol, can be. I sometime tend to paint heads too big. I don't know how it is in this paitning though. I've been looking at it for so long that I've lost my judgement skills. ¤_¤
ThruMyEyez: Thanks!
MsMichelleLynn: Thankie. :) I would have loved to have her looking at the bird, but the clients wanted to see her whole face. I'm glad you like my artwork though.
Fuchsia: Thank you!
ADY: Thanks!
Exorbac: The clouds was a real pain in the butt, I've repainted them so many times. If I had a little more patience I'd fix them better. ;)
Andy: Thanks dude!
Estele, MCC, ersen-t: Thank you all. :)

The water feels a bit repetitive.

The bird however, is awesome, and the stars are dazzling!(B)

cool colors/ sick composition. The water looks a little too uniform and patterned on the right shoreline. Like how they used to paint water before photographs, which still has it's charm 8/8

This piece is beautiful! One comment, I think the foreground hand is a little small.

It's beautiful. I love the work you've done on integrating water with the character. Having said that, she is missing her left shoulder. It's just very strange the way her left arm is showing up behind the bird. Maybe little bit more definition on the shoulder and both of her hands. They seem too small. I am thinking, hands are very important when you are illustrating magic (specially here with focus on the bird coming out of her hands). Right now, there is not a lot of power in them. I think the painting would have a greater impact if you enlarge them a bit and define them somewhat.
Other than that, really impressive job.

Thank you very much all of you!
Picky: Thank you so much for your constructive comment. The shoulder area was tricky for me. I wasn't quite sure how to do it and I couldn't find a proper reference. Thinking back I should have added more flesh and shadows there. Too late now though since I allready gave it to the clients... But I'll keep your comment in mind for my next artworks. ;)

I haven't been this impressed with a piece of an art in quite some time; The composition and your use of color really make this piece shine. Very lively. My only problem is the skin tones; I think a cooler color palette would have worked better for the skin (more magenta like, as opposed to the warmer colors). Despite that, I'm left in awe.
