Description

This is a night shot I took while working late one night of my company's headquarters. This is the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California located in Downtown Los Angeles, CA. We're responsible for bringing water from the Colorado River, Sierra Nevada Snowpack, and the Bay Delta all the way to Southern California. The US Government considers us one of the country's 7 most important infrastructures. Water is life, right?

Enjoy!

Not sure HDR really adds to this type of composition.
Think you can get it right with proper camera settings without the us of HDR actually.

Looks like you have got a tiny yellow cast (ie white balance being slightly off).

Section of sky has a bit of noise and light flare (would try to fix/heal/noise reduce that part of the composition).

Water is life! :)

White-balance is actually way off :p

I'd try a color balance of -46, -25, +70 (or thereabouts). Unless you like cast, but personally I think it detracts from some of the cool colors in the fountain-base and in other parts of the image.

As far as the actual composition goes -- no complaints there. I could definitely see this on their website or hanging in their lobby or something -- you've captured it quite well. Nice work (thumbup)

Don't know much about HDR or white-balance, but I like it ;)

only the bright light at the left below part disturbs.

The composition is fine but I agree with Patrick that a non-HDR might work better as this is missing some contrast and pure blacks which I miss in a nighttime shot. Still a good image.

Lovely. I don't know much about HDR, but from what I've seen it always add something special to any photo. I like this photo because all the lights, lines and colors has something "glamorous" about them. It feels like I'm a famous moviestar that is a little late arriving to the party going on inside. ;)

yep great photo man!... as an artist i totally love this, no complaints about anything. its very warm, home coming and makes me very comfortable. thats my 2 cents.. mayb call me ignorant but i dun understand bout the other pro photographers talking bout how white can make this better.

i'll love to go to this place!

I would try taking the shot without the convergent perspective (is that a real term?). You could do it by making sure the camera is not pointing up at the building and is pointing directly straight at it. You could also fix it in Photoshop's lens correction filter.

I kinda like the greenish/yellow to it. Makes if feel golden.

Agree with above about white balance:)
(+1, 0, -4) bracketing would be better imo;)

Very nice Tom! I enjoy the composition's balance. The white balance isn't at all a problem for me. I enjoy the golden glow. I might have stepped down an exposure.
