Description

This is a house sparrowll. It's the most widely distributed wild bird on the planet according to wikipedia. This one was willingly posing for me while I took some shoots in the sun.

Great capture! indeed perfect sharpness and good compo :)
But I think birds are a dull object to look at :p but maybe that's just me.. ;)

Well we all have our favorite subjects but that is something that I set aside when viewing a photograph.

I think this birdy is sharp and nicely captured (beak and eyes are spot on sharp which is most important). The tail could be sharper though. ;)

(thumbdown) Composition -- dead-center is compositionally the weakest place to put your subject. I'm (sort of) surprised moser didn't say anything, that's basically his favorite line :p There are definitely exceptions to centered subjects, but I wouldn't classify this as one.
(thumbdown) Subject -- you've even stated in your description that this is an extremely common bird. What makes this shot of it interesting? Despite my disinterest in photographs of birds, I can still appreciate a well-taken shot of one.
(thumbdown) Setting -- the entire shot is overwhelmingly brown. Perhaps waiting until the bird perched in a more colorful setting would've improved this shot a bit.
(thumbup) You've gone out with your camera. Congratulations.

I don't believe there's really anything about this shot that makes it demand attention. Just remember: You've uploaded this shot to a public forum, for all to look at and judge. If you don't wish to hear people's opinions, don't upload.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Mine is that it has eye appeal. I like the overall reddish brown tones, the centered composition, and the excellent focus and DOF. The rules can be broken and this looks good to me. IMHO.

I see it is sparrow season. Way better than cat's season...

I respect Byonder's view on this, but disagree about all three points. First, to get a close-up of that sparrow there is no way to compose this differently, or one may have to cut the tail out. For the distance here, this is as off-center as possible. Second, as for the species - trash bird indeed, but this is not a rare bird forum. House sparrows may be more beautiful than many little rare grey jobs.

The overall colour - I like it. Smooth background that fits perfectly with the colours of the bird and perch.

I agree with Patrick about the DOF. Otherwise I think it is a very good bird image.

Nice birdy. Pretty nice brown tones as well.

Could use more contrast.

A less central composition would be more dynamic/exciting considering the bird is just sitting there.

I'm not sure about composition but the quality is very good. (thumbup) :)

I enjoy the earth tones and the patterning of the background. Center composition works well here. Not my favorite bird as they are the rats of the avian community but still a nice image.

great pose of the birdie...looks like a security man (for the swollen chest) outside some discopub checking that everything is right...

Nice colours and good focus on the eyes and beak. For this angle I wish there was more DOF to give better focus on the tail. Could use an extra element (e.g. dramatic angle, coloured leaves) to give it more impact.
