Description
This is a house sparrowll. It's the most widely distributed wild bird on the planet according to wikipedia. This one was willingly posing for me while I took some shoots in the sun.

But I think birds are a dull object to look at

I think this birdy is sharp and nicely captured (beak and eyes are spot on sharp which is most important). The tail could be sharper though.

I don't believe there's really anything about this shot that makes it demand attention. Just remember: You've uploaded this shot to a public forum, for all to look at and judge. If you don't wish to hear people's opinions, don't upload.

Mine is that it has eye appeal. I like the overall reddish brown tones, the centered composition, and the excellent focus and DOF. The rules can be broken and this looks good to me. IMHO.

I respect Byonder's view on this, but disagree about all three points. First, to get a close-up of that sparrow there is no way to compose this differently, or one may have to cut the tail out. For the distance here, this is as off-center as possible. Second, as for the species - trash bird indeed, but this is not a rare bird forum. House sparrows may be more beautiful than many little rare grey jobs.
The overall colour - I like it. Smooth background that fits perfectly with the colours of the bird and perch.
I agree with Patrick about the DOF. Otherwise I think it is a very good bird image.

Could use more contrast.
A less central composition would be more dynamic/exciting considering the bird is just sitting there.
