Hello. I haven’t been on gfx for a while. I took a break from painting, and then, when I tried to start again, I couldn’t finish anything. This is the first image I have completed for ages.

I’ve showed this to a couple friends and family members and they all thought it was a window in the background. It is meant to be a mirror (her shoulder is reflected in it). Any ideas on how I could have made that more noticeable (and any other tips, of course) would be appreciated.

Great to see some new artwork! I have to say, I like this piece a lot! The intensity of her eyes and textures on the hair and lips are great, as are the different tones you've used in her hair and on her skin. Maybe defining the edge of her shirt outside of the mirror just a little bit more would make it stand out more against her shirt in the mirror. I really like the slightly hazy feel the mirror has. Great job!

I think the viewing angle of the man in the mirror and her don't line up...that's possibly why people don't see it. Why not post it in WIP if you are still working on it, should get more comments that way

Yes, I did use I ref. Sorry, I forgot to link it. I really liked the girl's eyes and the way her hair was falling in her face. Actually, I liked all of her, but, as you can see, I changed the rest of her features to better suit "Cecilia," who is a fictional charcter.

Good work!
I think the nose is a bit off in combination with the eyes(specially the right-eye-side). The eyes look like they're very deep in the face, while the nose (on the right eye-side) doesn't match that (or something like that

)
The eyes itself look great though!
Antoher (minor) thing is that she has lightblonde hair and a very light skin. that's not a problem ofcourse, but a light dress like she has now make her look even whiter. Maybe a red one (like the red in her lips) would look great?
But that's just my taste
