Description

Of the fairytale project: and for the t-shirt company. I do hope they like it.

Her name is Mayehlie.
--

Songs under the apple tree.

Red like the apple: lips, heart, robins - the sun that glows bright like a lantern before it sets. Pale olive, the feet, the hands, the tips of the bird's wings - and shadows cast by bright yellow trees across the lake.

And in her heart, she knew - in its inner, bright-redness, that today was the day - today it would rain and the droplets would part like a curtain. To let him approach.

Beautiful subject, colours and composition - a lovely piece. Tell me, do you use any photo reference for you subjects? You paint them so well. :)

It looks like a bit different style to me but it's amazing when I am talking about details. So much details in shadows and refelctions. Just amazing. Perfect creation, it doesn't looks at all as a computer painting, it looks like reality..

God Must be at His creative best when he made you, Linda......

Having said that,I'd like to point out that I get a little confused bout the light direction in this piece....seems there are different sources of light on her face and the rest of her body....having said that.... I think the best part of this artwork is its impeccable fabric rendering. (thumbup) +7

Avatar PeachySticks

 08/03/03 @269

Wow, I think this is the most realistic painting you've done. It looks just like a photo.

There's something weird about the lighting, especially at the bottom half. She looks like she's lit by white light, but her face and chest is more yellow, and the background clearly suggest it's autumn, or maybe sunset or whatever, which gets confusing.

Avatar Engelszorn

 08/03/03 @379

O_O Confusing...i can't make out the perspective of the pond...her arm looks kind of flat. It's my personal opinion, but i don't like the mixture of painting-like style and photorealism. I don't know where the artist put the emphasis.

Well, you hear that very oft - your skill with PC-programs is amazing :) I don't know where you heading, though...

The photorealism in this piece is amazing, and yet it is also has a quality that sets it aside from any photo - it more more magical than anything you could capture with a camera.
But yes, the leaf shadows that fall on her don't look quite right. I think that the image has such soft lighting, but the shadows of the leaves are too harsh. But that's my only crit, the image is, of course, another masterpiece.

Inspiron

 08/04/03 @301

Lovely piece.
I think her leg is bit weird. It looks like the foot is not connected to it. The feet are really nice by the way.

There are many strong light sources around but why no highlights/shine on the hair?

The bird on the left, it has uneven wings...one is smaller than the other or the way they open is different.

I guess thats about all that hasn't been mentioned in other places.

Avatar Duracel

 08/04/03 @686

Bravo, Linda. A beautiful piece.

I know it is supposed good to have critique so one can improve. I really understand that but sometimes I think art should just "be". I don't think it always about whether something is "photorealistic" or "painterly" or even having perfect anatomy. I really believe that it should be about the creative process and what evolves from that! It is always going to be subjective. One man's meat is another man's poison!

Just my thoughts on some of the other comments made not just on this piece but overall on this site and other similar art sites ;)

Hello Miss or Mrs. Bergkvist,
This is a very beautiful painting. One of my all time favorite artist is (and not for anybody elses reasons) Leonardo DeVinci. The reason is the way he formed his figures with logical form and core shadowing technique creating a very 3D look. Some of the Pre Raphealite Artists also did this well. You seem to be following in this direction in an exceptional manner with this piece. I look forward to browsing more of your stuff and seeing new artwork from you.

 08/13/03 @258

Looks like this place is without time. I get the impression that the weather is warm but moist. Just like on a warm summersday before the thunder comming. Seemingly the place is without noise except for some distant animal sounds and maybe the mild winds blowing in the trees now and then. Tranquility is all over the place. Maybe I'll build a hut nearby. Maybe I'll explore the mountains in the distance. But whatever happens this is the place I want to die. =)

JudgementDay

 11/03/03 @147

You know, you are usually a lot better at hiding the photo or Poser source you use in your pictures but you got a bit sloppy in this one. The foot and the hem of the skirt really give it away. And the sad thing is that a lot of people KNOW you are lying about what you do but everytime someone tries to say so on Epilogue, their comments get deleted very quickly. In fact, a lot of us who have galleries at Epilogue met in a chatroom and discussed your art as well as that of a couple of other artists who claim that they never use photos or Poser. One of those artists is no longer on Epilogue because he got busted and they found his reference photo. You are far better at using obscure sources, taking your own photos, or creating very decent Poser work and doing an elegant job of covering it up in Photoshop. I have looked at your tutorials and there are big pieces missing. Those can be easily faked, by the way. You are obviously very talented but you have no integrity whatsoever. It's kind of funny, really, because so many people know what you are doing and that it's wrong but they are afraid to speak up or else they do speak up and get deleted or flamed. One day you will be exposed beyond a shadow of a doubt, my dear. There will be a lot of dissappointed people who believed in you...

Avatar Enayla

 11/03/03 @468

Dear me, dear me. It didn't occur to you to email me privately with your opinions?

No matter what anybody said about Linda or her works, I'm always behind her! This goes to you too JudgementDay. You didn't know how hard Linda have to undergo lots of stuff from people like you since beginning. It is obviously that you dont appreciate art cos art is a freedom and as long as somebody likes it, then you should just shut-up. No point of posting something in here just to put her down cos' it's gonna make you look like a fool. If you're not happy with anything, just send her private message and I'm sure she'll be nice enough to sit down and explain everything to you. Art is not about putting other people down while embarassing them in front of public! And eventhough if she is as what you said she is, then I don't care and I think millions of other people in GFXartist or other places such as Epilogue or Deviantart wouldn't even care. Linda's been nice and share her gorgeously gorgeous works for us and thats what matter the most. To Linda, keep up doing what you want to do and do please remember that I'll support you in whatever the matter is. You've been through lots of stuff similiar to this so this shouldn't be any problem to you ::winkwink::

By the way, I love the coloring scheme of this work. It generates rich and warm and yet dreamy sort of mood. Feels like you want to have a nap under apple tree on one fine summer day and dream of magic and faeries and beautiful songbirds with lovely water running calm down the stream. Great job! off I go dreaming about your stuff again ::sigh::

This has to be one of my favorites of your works. The realism is so perfect...I can hardly believe those hands and feet are painted. Not to mention the cloth, as well as all the other textures. What sort of size do you work your images in to get such amazing detail when you size them down?

man her left foot looks like a photo, i studied it and cannot tell it is painted. I wish i could view a larger version. I like the feel it has to it, although i think she should be painted to fit the style of the backround. However maybe she jumped to a different reality, then it makes sense.

At first i thought those dark marks were Elven birth marks, until i read some post and they were talking about lead shadows.

Over all very good.

It's funny; "Paint over" is considered an insult and is supposed to be in Photo Manipulation category, yet the technique has the word PAINT in it. It's a painting and whether strong references were used or it was painted on top a photo, it does not prove dishonesty. Stop putting guidelines on art. She creates beautiful work and even if she painted them all over, it's her composition, which many people happen to like, even though we all hear your accusation. What does that tell you? NO ONE CARES about your jealous rage.

Throwing around accusations only proves your own insecurities. Perhaps your insecurities, You know who you are, spawn from the accusations on your own work?
I doubt Linda has the time to sit here and read ignorant posts insulting her. Every celebrity gets flamed at one point, so I see this as nothing more than jealous trolling.

I salute you, Linda; For being able to tolerate the kind of behavior you have encountered here on GFX. The immaturity is overwhelming.

Beautiful Piece, Linda ^_^
PS Sorry about the rant in your commentary. I've just been wanting a place I can express my view. >.<

Avatar slickgreekgeo

 04/16/07 @747

Chicken (or is it wings?): ""Paint over" is considered an insult "

Yes, indeed it is. It shows that an artist can't paint anything worthwhile w/o incorporating a photo underneath, as Linda Bergkvist clearly has in most, if not all of her works. This is proved beyond a resonalbe doubt in this thread:

http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=68448

I agree that her work is excellent (I already stated that numerous times, you failed to acknowledge that), but her techniques are falsified; She states you need to know anatomy and perspective to paint like her, and that's in fact, false. Even you clearly stated that.

The problem isn't the techniques she uses, it's the fact that she lied about it numerous times, even going as far as to create mutliple fake tutorials. That's unethical in my eyes. Again, the problem lies with her dishonesty, not her techniques. If she was honest about what she does from the start, we wouldn't be having this discussion now, would we?

"Every celebrity gets flamed at one point,"

That has to be the most ignorant statement I've heard. She's not a celebrity. I know you choose to worship her and bow at her feet, but that doesn't make her a celebrity, believe it or not. The fact that you choose to call her that pretty much confirms that you're some crazed fangirl. At least you can admit that she does paintover and photomanipulate, so I do give you some credit.

................

Linda, I'm sorry for ranting on some of your pieces. Hopefully you can be more honest in the future. It's very hard for anyone to respect you know when you've been exposed; I urge you to be more honest about your working methods from now on. There's nothing wrong with the way you work, as long as you're being up front about it.

Don't preach how you're a master of anatomy, when you have no idea how anatomy works, as proven here:

http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=68448

It's not putting you in a good light. It's insulting to your fans, and to real painters as well. Don't create a fake tutorial, teaching how to paint, when you're in fact overpainting a photo. Don't lie. Don't lie, and don't lie. It's not that hard really, I'm sure you have an ounce of decency left in you to be honest about your working methods in the future.

... Or maybe not.
