Description

A digital painting done for a contest with the theme of "beauty and the beast." This is my take on the subject; confident grace atop violent motion. It took about five hours in Photopaint 10.

I'm a big fan of old-school pulp fantasy illustrators, and this is something of a homage to them. Artists such as St.John could take potentially cheesy subject matter and render it with dignity and grace.

Giddy up.

The link-thinger isn't working, but I just wanted to mention that you can see a 900-pixel-wide version at my website.

Cool.. just that the movement of the guy is kinda blurry. It must be the paintery effect you put on there. Very nice tho. :)

I think that this is an absolutely stunning painting. Not only are the mountains and forest in teh background increadable and very reminicent of old oil paintings, but the primary figures in teh foreground are increadable. You managed to capture the grace, confidence and strength of the woman perfectly, its like she's afraid of nothing and completely in control, she knows exactly what's ahead. I love how you managed to keep small details while maintaining an abstract look. This painting would be absolutely perfect above a fireplace in a cabin of some sort.
