You like your purple skys dont you? Both this one and your previous one share the brilliant purple sky. The cloud's in this one though are mildly confusing because at the bottom there is alot of detail to them and at the top they are flatter looking.

i would have used a bit more shades of purple for the top of the sky, but you have used beautiful colors :)

Okay, that's it. I'm adding you to my favorite artists list. :)

I really love the color gradients you have in this piece, and the detail work as well. I love the reds you pushed in on the tail feathers, but I think it would benefit the piece to push those into the wings or some other area in the piece.
I like the really organic curves that are in most (if not all) of your pieces...but I feel like the line of the phoenix's back in this one is very static, especially since it's crossing near the center of the piece.
I do like the piece though... don't get me wrong. :) +8

"The phoenix cannot heal herself, she can only take the pains of others until she dies, and then reborn."

Very nice quote... That's how I imagined it.
You know much about mythology, hm?

Seeing your gorgeous Phoenix paintings make me realize just how darn badly I'm doing with mine ^_^; I adore the flowers and the detail on the feathers! You've rendered the phoenix so beautifully! +7!

if your title was in Japanese I wouldn't know this was a Phoenix.... but since it isn't in Japanese, then it's a Phoenix! Really nice. Those feathers really take a loooot of patience.

that's amazing, i love the head of the pheonix and the flowers on the branch. The tailfeathers are awesome also. ;)

Amazing! I have a few crits though. The composition is a bit too closely cropped at the bottom of the picture.. I would extend this painting down a bit so the ends of the tail feathers would be visible. Also something about the top half of the picture is a bit odd. First, there is little of the purple sky light reflecting on the clouds, which gives a bit of that cut-and-paste look, and secondly there is a bit of an er, empty space to the left margin that throws the top part of the pic off a bit.

Those are rather minor though, this is great stuff. I'd be very proud of this if I made it.! +7

Great work, but...

the back seems a little unfinished. The line is so hard that it looks like the bird has scales instead of feathers. I must add that I don't know anything about bird anatomy, so I could also be saying a lot of nonsense ^^

Love the subject and the colors. You did a wonderful job with the flowers too. I only have a couple of things to point out if you don't mind. I don't know if you painted the clouds on the separate layer or not, but it seems like the bird is separating one big cloud into two pieces. The second thing is the bottom feathers. I am thinking of the feathers as a very light and a bit translucent thing. The feathers you've painted have some kind of dark outline which makes them look very thick and un-natural. Those are just minor things I have notice in this beautiful and worthy of coment piece. Thanks

dunno why but i always though of the phoenix as some sort of a raptor while this bird's morphology is rather reminiscent of a grouse or capercaillie; well that's just me.
awesome painting and wonderful colours.

Interesting concept. The use of cherry blossoms had to be deliberate, since in Japanese symbolism (possibly in neighboring countries as well?) they represent ephemeral beauty, dying while still in the prime. The sunset (for it is a sunset, judging by its golden light; sunrises have bluish light) continues the theme of pairing beauty and death. Her facial expression is very human. The contours of her lower back doesn't look quite right, but that would probably only bother people who are very familiar with birds. Excellent work with how her feathers reflect the sunlight.
