Description

A portrait of my girlfriend.

I first thought of painting another image of my daughter but then realised that I just would be known as a "child-painter". So instead I managed to trick my girlfriend into posing for me.
I messed up big time a couple of times on this one and had to start over and over again. Last try took about 3 days to complete.

And I used Painter 8 and a Wacom tablet (and a girlfriend as reference )

Great work again. Even thou, not quite as striking as the one of your little daughter (the element of surprise only work once). This is so well done, you truly are amazing! I'm so looking forward to all your future posting.

This is great, the angle you choose to compose the face is very different from the normal,I can't just put my finger on what it is tho' that is so compelling, it's like not a fisheye lens effect, but the view sucks you in, and also changes the shape of the skull, both here and in the one of your daughter. Quite excellent.:)

Wow, the final effect of light and shadows...is the tipical effect of the photo flash light, and tipical camera fov distortion.
Certainly you use a photo reference!...i hope...otherwise you are a natural "photocameraman" :)))
However greate tecnique ;)

Thanks alot for voting me all the way up to #1 !!!
I just can't thank uou enough..

Danka: Actually I haven´t used a photo reference for this image. This isn´t the first painting I´ve done of her and I used to use alot of photos when I was learning and practicing. So I always use the typical "camera flash" highlights when I paint. Mainly because it´s comfortable for the viewer to look at and it makes the image more "photo-like"
And the FOV distorsion is also a thing I always "paint into" the picture to force the viewer to look at the eyes.

Shiv: Yes, it´s the mother of little Ella.

That's some pretty nice light sourcing and shadowing. You should try exaggerating that FOV. I tried drawing a girl like that myself. Just haven't painted it yet.

As for the use of a girlfriend. I'm sure all your other girlfriends were quite upset that you didn't pick them. lol. :)

Hey there Ghetto! Nice job here! Painting digitally for 10 years you say? That's loooong! I don't think your girlfriend will find this picture very flattering. though. Good luck with her next time! Perhaps do another one with her and Ella?

The colours you used are sooooo realistic! Your blending is somewhat similar to vilinde's--she's an Elite here ;). The highlights you've used really makes it pop. I can definitely see the resemblance too There's a tiny crit, and it's the eyebrows, the way the indevidual haird line up perfectly along the first 2/3 of the length don't look quite as realistic as, say, the eye lashes or the hair. Still it's a lovely piece anyway. :)

Lovely work. Though I wonder what would come of it if you tried painting more complex stuff with a larger colour range. This stuff is almost too easy for you. :p

But hey, what do I know. Whatever it is that you feel like painting is obviously up to you. +5

To me she looks very young. A cool painting, but I'm puzzling over whether it's because she is or not.

Huge request: PLEASE tell me how you render skin so well. I can't seem to get colors to blend properly to get highlights, shadows, etc. without it looking completely cartoony.

Very lovely and natural. It's so warming to look at and I think it's because you didn't choose a traditional portrait pose. (hope I made sense)

Also, your daughter is soooo very darling. Once I saw this painting I knew she was the mother. I shouldn't ask but you are a lucky man to have such an attractive family. Don't let them slip away, GET MARRIED!

Oh, yea, max score from me! Nice job.

It's nicely painted, but I'd just have to say that the lighting looks to much like the flash of a camera. I'm guessing the reference you used is a picture you took? I know many digital artists that will use pictures they took and drastically change the lighting. Not direction, but a little consistency of the light I think could be tweaked a bit on this. It looks like the light is very concentrated mostly on the left side of the face, from the flash bulb. I think if it were blended a bit more smoothly or lightened, this painting would look less like the reference. Besides this, I think the paint was applied quite well! (ps: Disregard some of those mean comments others might have put up! She's cute!!)
