Description

tried to get this into this year's Expose book, but no luck. looks like you lot get stuck with it instead...:)

i'd sketched the figures in my notebook during an idle moment a while before, and decided them to scan 'em in and paint 'em up. mixed feelings about the result: i like the planets in the background, and the scaly dragon-guy. the rest feels a little too airbrushy. the fuzzy guy at the top right looks bizarrely like someone i used to work with...

the reflections under their feet are a little off, but the rest looks great. the picture kinda needs a story or something.

ta very much. i think it took about a week, maybe a week-and-a-half on and off. i had real concentration issues with this one...went through alternating periods of hating it then liking it: does anyone else get this? plus, in the end i was rushing a bit to get it finished: hence the dodgy reflections...and don't look too closely at the cat girl's right arm...hey! i said don't!

I really like the charaters and the way you showed the light on each of the characters. It gives it a nice feel. If you do revisit this piece, you mcan maybe put a little more definition between the characters, They are all kinf of blending into each other now. I realy do like these charactes though. Can you give more backstory?

good point about the characters blending into each other. i remember trying to create a contast by overlaying blue over the background characters and red over the foreground characters, but it just didn't work...i was trying to tie what is really just a bunch seperate character sketches together with a blue light from the left and a yellow light from the right...there's no light reflecting off the surface of the ice, you'll notice...if i did it again i'd plan the compostion of the whole pic out a lot better.

As for the backstory...i guess it was just going to be a bunch of disperate characters stranded on some out-of-the-way planet, and how they'd not get along. you'll notice that most of them don't look to happy with their situation...(with the notable exception of fozzy in the back...i'll have whatever he's having...)

Wow, what cool characters and composition. I don't think the feeling is so airbrushed, just that the pants and shoes of the boy standing in front look a little out of focus.

You have a grasp on color and light that many of us only wish we had...

It's also a fantastic piece all around. Love the character designs and various technical doodads on the costumes.

I also think that I walk around with a similar look of confusion that the guy on the far right has.... heh.
