Crow, has it ever occured to you that I used Monochromatic colors intentionally? That almost "monochromatic" background contrasted with the bright red banners, flag and the whole colourscheme goes really well with the concept. And I am really tired of this "monochromatic" bullshit...What the hell is that anyway? Every time I submit a piece on GFX, some guy's come and says: "Oh, this is monochromatic"... Where did you learn this gig guys? From Arenhaus? Well, let me tell you something: he's not a painting god and THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH USING MONOCHROMATIC COLORS DAMMIT! How did you get this wrong idea? Dude, you cannot criticize it. It's a personal style, Not everbody's supposed to paint like Dali! many great illustrators using monochromatic colorscheme,(Frazetta, Giger, Brom) I don't understand that, I've never heard that using monochromatic tones is wrong! It's funny, that critique is very popular here! this is a gig on GFX
Of course soldiers' proportions are a bit off man! Have you ever heard of intentionally twisted, caricaturated anatomy? Exaggeratated characterisations? Please take a look at the guy at the bottom right, look at his back of neck, Is there any way to think that this guy's supposed to be real? Is this work looks like realistic to you? Well, sorry... this is not a realistic piece, character anatomies, enviroment and other elements are intentionally twisted and stylized. And here's the news to you: I am not some 17th-century classical painter

Good job buddy, very well done, i like so much. keep it up.

As an artist you should learn to"handle" peoples criticisms better. Crow's comments were valid, he percieved it one way while another may percieve it another. If it bugs you so much as how people crit your art style or method. Maybe consider writing down how we should grasp the piece or the theme you intended on presenting here. Otherwise, it seems you took crows comments to heart.
...relax.
The theme and context is great. The colors are fine but the piece as a whole seems "off" You have things in the background almost as "sharp" as things in the foreground, which is throwing your perspective and distance off. Id say less with the "blotchy" patches and render it a bit more to fit some of the more rendered areas on your digital painting. Its looking good, just sit down with it a bit more i think.
You have a promising piece here.

Oguzman, I am so relax that you couldn't believe it man. My English is sux, maybe I couldn't find the right words
And I'm rely on this rule:
1. Don't be an asshole. This is a rule, not a guideline. We really mean this, breaking this rule will get your account suspended. If you can't say anything nice or constructive, don't say anything at all. We're here to share visual creations, get some feedback and learn. It doesn't mean you may not be critical, afterall that's what feedback is for.
"If you can't say anything nice or constructive, don't say anything at all." This is GFX policy, well gfx team doesn't seem to exercise this policy, but that's not the issue. You know what? I can allow a person to be an asshole if he's right, careful: if he's right on his critique basis! But you cannot be an asshole and being wrong at the same time
Thanks for the constructive critiques btw, but If you look at the background mountains and the watch tower, you can see that they're on a different sharpness level, but you're right about perspective, I'm kind of new at this tablet painting
Thanks for the polite comments people

Anyways, awesome piece once again. There is something a bit "off" but i don't know what it is. I like the style though and the premise is interesting. Wonder who would have won if that thing existed.....

People must look at the time factor also, for 13 hours its awesome, and i know with a little more time you'd perfect this image. But for me its good enough to be finished. Very well done. ok, now im off to look at the rest of your gallery

This picture borders on not having enough color variation, but I am not going to gripe since it's obvious that the color is not supposed to be "painterly". The scheme here is based on just two distinct colors, the flag and everything else - the artist is fully entitled to do it, I believe. I won't claim it's perfect; I believe the artist could have used more variance within the "teal" zone, still keeping the two-color scheme distinct but achieving a better feel of atmosphere. But am I going to shred it in pieces for not being perfect? - no and no!
Crow - please look into how limited color schemes can be used to your advantage; pure realism is not the only artistic approach.
KeremBeyit - relax, I don't really enjoy to catch someone else's flak just because I insist that artists must know how to use color properly.
You can cheat all you want, as long as you know how to work without cheating. Cheers.
08/18/04 @050
I suggest making the following things distinct: the sky and the trees (if these are tress, they're very sketchy-smudgy) can be made lighter and more transparent; the pavement a little less saturated; the black uniforms darker and less saturated and the green ones having a more olive tint; the white robe of the "mad scientist" accept the sky light; and enhance the metallic sheen on the robot.
You can still put a lot of subtle but clear color contrast into a "monochromatic" work. You just need to approach everything with the same attitude to color; don't allow thinking like "this is so close in color, I can just smudge black over it". A painter always thinks of color interaction even if he has one color to work with.

Carver, Thank you very much for sharing your thought. You speak for my heart too man
Arenhaus, I don't believe you dispensing critiques to all monochromatic-scheme work here without discrimination
Well, I really tired of this topic and I don't want to discuss it anymore.
As for the Frazetta... If you believe this (above) work is monochromatic, those (below) works are monochromatic as well. And the first one is a typical sepia artwork and this color-scheme resemble my work "sheikh". And you said "sheikh" was monochromatic

btw from this work i like the most the complementary use of greens and reds (maby some bluegreen too) it´s very well balanced!
about stylistic figures think the same, sometimes people forghet what an ilustration is and all posibilitis of this caind of expresion.
any way i like this work!
keep them coming. and it´s good have this caind of disscusion for a change.
ps: sorry about my bad english!

08/27/04 @260
I love the long legs of your figures and the quirk factor- my only critique is it doesn't scream "1930s/40s" to me- I image the robot with more of a art deco flavour- but that's just being fussy.
08/29/04 @382
09/02/04 @891
I'm not good with perspective and colour in relation to that, so I don't see any problems with that, personally. I really like the amount of detail you've put into the background. The only thing that bothers me with this piece is the dude standing next to the robot on the left. He's standing on a sloped bit, and it's making one leg look longer than the other. And normally people move so they are standing on relatively flat ground, and do so subconciously. This is also perhaps why him standing there rings a little 'off' to me.
Two thumbs up for another wonderful picture Kerem!

i think it looks good ..liked the style in it..those colors look snice and gives the mood of war...and such scene would look kinda bad with full of colors.....one thing bugs me is composition..three figures at the front of frame looks too straight..u could give them more depth ..or one or two larger and more dtailed figure in front..
ingilizce ile anlatmak zor oluyo ama öndeki 3 figürün tek sıra halinde dizilmesi olmamış demek istiyorum sadece

the idea is great. the colours may be ok, but ... you messed it up. i don't know what to say ...

"Monochromatic colors are all the hues (tints and shades) of a single color. As a result, the energy is more subtle and peaceful due to a lack of color contrast. Monochromatic colors offer very little contrast and may be considered boring unless there is diversity within the design. "
http://iit.bloomu.edu/vthc/Design/monochromatic.htm
This picture is not monchromatic as a whole according to that definition
I think you could improve, if you want to
I still think it is a good painting and you are elite member for a reason
