Description
I've just started my very own bestiary....only, instead of doing it alphabetically, I'm going by order of preference (gryphons are my favourites).Done entirely in Photoshop_6.

Extremely well-rendered textures. I particularly like the wings and the claws.

What can I say other than wow! Great texturing and detail! Off centered would have created a bit more interest. But oh well, it's too good for me to care anyways!

This is a great picture. I especially like his wings -- they're so nicely rendered! (It's also nice to see the wings NOT spread out, for once) It's like I can feel the tremendous strength in those wings.

Doesnt matter where this goes you got my 9/9, i can see no flaws, the wings are my favorite part, they have such a cool perspective

F0rk0: before I learned Photoshop, that's exactly what I used; ebony pencils, charcoal, and dry pastels. I guess the style kind of stuck with me!
DarkMaiden: You've just made my day! (hell, you've just made my whole week!!) Thanks!
Joe-Ayotte: Thanx! ...yeah, it's centered because of it's purpose. A bestiary is kind of like an illustrated encyclopedia of beasts.
teseracto, keiiii, Hybridos: I'm glad you like the wings.I did spend a lot of extra time on them, although I'm still not 100% happy with them. Turns out it's very hard to figure out how to put wings on the torso of a mammal, and I think the bone/muscle structure is not quite as it should be... but the general effect is exactly what I wanted, so I guess it's OK.
Thanx again for all your comments!

The wings are perfect, in my opinion. Normally I'd think the wings go up more to where the shoulderblades are, but where you've got them looks quite plausible to me. Time well spent! And that's the first time I've ever seen a Gryphon done with tail feathers! Very original!
I think the rock may be too smooth a surface to seem completely real- almost like a zoo habitat, if zoos held myth creatures.
Keep up the great work Jie! I look forward to the rest of your series! ^_^

Creature-wise (it's been commented before) putting tail feathers on this beast looks great. I've been trying to draw a gryphon I like for a while, without any results worth sharing, this one just raised the bar on the quality gryphon I am to draw someday.
