Description

A GI Jane figure from one of my original stories I've written when I was in Gr 11. I still *heart* that kick ass chick persona of hers--she's still one of my favourite characters.

Created in Photoshop 5.

Inabottle,

Eep. I just noticed the crappy quality of it. It didn't look like this in PSD form. Must be the JPG conversion problem again. I'll edit it as soon as I can. Thanks.

It might be my monitor settings.. but it seems too dark in the hair and sweater,,becomes one big shape...which then makes the neck look like it's in an awkward/impossible position

Great work on the lips and eye though!

The eye looks nice. You seem to have used a lot of blur or smudge tool though. There also seem to be grey shades on her skin, which doesn't quite fit, and some of the darker colours you used for shading (her cheekbones most noticeably) result in a muddy sort of look for her skin. The hair looks nice if a bit dark (at least on my monitor). The background colour was a nice choice as well :)

I know back in the day I would only draw half a face out of fear of screwing up the symmetry. I don't know if that's your reason, or you were going for a specific look.

I agree with the muddy shadow...try not to use a darker hue of a color for a shadow of that color...don't be afraid to use other colors instead.

use different layers and erase the outlines to go sure that you get some sharp edges

Thanks guys.

Fizzii, I don't use smudge tools--ever wonder why that's a bad thing? I've only been using a lot of soft-edged brushes. People have been telling me that I should use hard-edged instead, but I can't seem to paint right with it. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed and see what happens.

Exitium2000: Yeah, I hate .jpgs. They never come out right. Sorry about the dark shade.

Wysiwyg: It's intentional. If you visit my DA (the link for my webpage), you'll find that I don't only draw half-faces. I am still struggling with the skin tone and such. Good to get some feedback on that one too. Thanks.

Uncle-Xen: Yeah, again, it's the soft-edged brush problem. I use lots of layers.

Well, if you use the blur tool in excess anyway, it makes the image fuzzy looking, which is why I thought you did. Using a hard edge brush isn't a bad idea - the idea is to select many different colours for the skin tone, and brush down the colour of the skin first, and shade in the head with those different colours. Once you have it down the colours rough, you can then smooth it out with some smudging and some more painting, but not overdo it.

If you scroll down, there's one on skin tones and painting heads :)

Good colours but you need to work more on shading,it looks a bit unfinished
