Description

Two more designs for the ecards project I’m working on - the first for the autumn equinox, the second for the spring equinox.

Both took about 5 hours and were completely painted in Photoshop. Reference used for the pose and fruit. I wasn’t sure whether to split them into two posts or not as they are two halves of the same image

I don't know about the gradients to pure black...that sits kind of heavy. I was going to say something about the hair but I see from your other works that it's just the way you like to depict it, and everyone needs a style to call their own.

The foliage is great, as well as the fruit. But the sharpness of things in the background (ie the wheel) and the blurriness of some foreground objects (her face and staff) kind of throws me off.

Still lovely though (thumbup)

Thanks for the comments :) Wsiwyg - good point about the different levels of focus and bluriness. That's something i'll keep an eye on whilst doing the next ones. Graphical rather than realistic hair has become my 'style' but I must have a go at trying to paint it more realistically sometime.

Thanks :) They are two separate ecards - one for autumn and one for spring. I posted them together as I felt they were too alike to be posted separately :)

This is really beautiful and a great depiction of spring/autumn day/night. My only complaint is the hair - it would be much more effective if the highlights were more specific to the light source rather than uniform. Other than that, I like it alot :)

I like the playing cards -type of juxtaposing of the characters. Other than that, what Wysiwyg said :)

very very nice work I like them both
but maybe you could have changed her face in one to look up or down or something like that :)

I love her face. There's something very gentle and sophisticated in her eyes.

I don't think the sleeves are draping correctly -- I'd like to see the folds respond more to the way her arms are bent. Also, the tree and the ground in the back seem too detailed and saturated, which makes my eyes focus more on the BG than on the lady.

Hope that helped :) Keep it up!

Hi ultraviolet, here's some tips to share with you. I'll try to avoid from using black too much. It dirties up the painting. Instead, use the darkest of certain colours nearing black to replace it. Also try to put more effort to work on your painting and not simply reverse the picture and change their colours just like that. Everyone appreciates hard work.

Hi jermoo. Thanks for the feedback. They are reversed because they are a polarity - autumn equinox and spring equinox. The point was to show the same elements with but with their attributes reversed :)
