"SIR WOODEN SWORD"

This is an artwork that I made for the Eksi Sozluk Magazine. A different piece from my other works, so here is the Sir Wooden Sword who enjoys hunting dragons in his dreams. I hope this takes you to your childhood fantasies. Enjoy:)

Great image.

Looks a bit unfinished in places.

But still great.

 02/19/05 @861

I really like the detail in the grass, just a great idea all around. My main beef is that the dragon and the rock he's on don't have enough varying degrees of texture, they just seem a little too smooth.

Avatar Fooxoo

 02/19/05 @877

I agree with yerffej, the dragon looks grown together with the rock, the two need to be TWO seperate things, maybe a little bit more shadowing, where they touch, would do it.

All in all it is fantastic, the detail, the smoothness, the story! Very good! Elegant job! :)

I like the idea/concept. The glance from dragon and the fighting childlike power from Sir Wooden, very cool.

Nice painting. But you have some issues with anatomy. Especially there are some problems on the boy. His arms looks off. If you try to fix them the painting will be better...

When I opened this and saw the top half, I thought "another dragon....(though be it a good one)" Then I scrolled down and saw the child. Great concept to go with a great painting. Explains the dragon's look of curiosity. Good job. +8/8 (wish I could give you more)

I love the yellowish tones you paint your works with, and this is no execption. Very cool concept with the child and the horse (thumbup) , and nice smooth textures on the dragon's wings. Great! Maybe the rock the dragon is sitting at could have been more texturized...

Marley

 02/20/05 @932

I really appreciate the image, the lower half is beautifully done. On the other hand i feel the dragon looks slightly pasted. Its the lovely tonality of the sky versus the burnt shading on the dragons left side (our right). I don't feel that these shadows should be so dark personally, It would make the dragon suit his environment better if the shading was lighter imho.

Can't fault the concept though ^^, top marks for that aspect

Avatar emostudios

 03/13/05 @176

Wow! This is def. one of my fav's.
What makes this piece so cool for me is the places where you have slipped from reality - they reinforce the dream state and really illustrate the concept. For example, the spots that look "unfinished" become the hazy places in your dream. And the boy's right hand is obviously way too big, but it reflects what maybe he is seeing in his mind - a huge strong hand.
Fantastic!!!!

I find that VARY funny picture... The Dragon has Man Boobs and the unicorn looks like its brother just died.

GuillaumeLeTual

Great image! Maybe I wouldn’t have used PS grass brush tho. It worked but not perfectly. Since it’s a "tight" painting, a few landscape elements (the rock, the branches at left, the far away trees at the right) could be even tighter without stealing the focus of the main characters.

12 hours!~ That’s very fast for this level of quality! but also justify the point I mentioned above, still room for a bit more detailing.

Great style, very humoristic, good idea!
