Description

"Los Tristes más Tristes del mundo"....."The saddest among the saddest people of the world"
Love Poem by Roque Dalton

The Sadness of Alcoholism.....Picture taken in Apaneca,a little town in El Salvador.
1). We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable. (Alcoholics Anonymous First Step)
I took my first step 21 years ago and have stayed sober since then....If one has a drinking problem....the best way to solve it, is Alcoholics Anonymous .

This picture is dedicated to my late Father....the most wonderful person I have ever met...He was a pharmacist....
One of my first memories of my childhood....is me and him walking by a street....several really poor alcoholic men saluted him with respect saying...."Good morning Little brother"....and he always answered with the same respect and tenderly...."Good morning Little brother"....he treated everybody as equals

PS
Please excuse me if I am late commenting your works....I am taking care of a premature baby.

This picture shows a sad reality present not just in El Salvador but, all over the world. Unfortunatelly, here in Brasil we have a lot of people in the same situation. All days, walking the 2 kilometers from my home to my job, I can see several homeless (and alcohollic) people under the buildings marquees. Maybe, inspired by you, I can try some shots about this subject too.

Avatar DigitalDust

 04/18/05 @327

Looks as if this gentleman has been to hell and back - and perhaps not altogether "back"...

Again, hard to assess these kinds of photos with crits or votes - just way too much real human drama involved for "numbers games" - there is no light in those eyes - and that is the most appalling realness to me...

Oh man again, your pics always got my attention, all ur shot reminds me of the photographer of National Geographic who took the shot of a 12 year old palestinian girl, hope you'd seen it, just look into her eyes and you'll see the emotions of the palestinian people, and you know what that photographer, after 20 years, he travel to find that girl again and took the shot same pose, then they compared the first shot when the girl was still 12 years of age and the shot of a 22 year old woman( same person), Oh the emotions of the eyes were still there, very nice, hope you've seen it, very emotional...

Anyway keep on that kind of subject you're good on it, +10.

Well Carlos my friend, I am late as always recently. Forgive me. This portrait is, intense, exquisite, and full of emotion. I have been clean and sober for ten years my friend. I truely feel the pain in this mans life, the surrender of himself. The absolute hoplessness. I have tears. We all must make our choices, and then we live our concquences. A great work of art Carlos, Keith

"Documentarian of the Lost". Kind of corny, but I think the title fits you.......This is a face that is all too readily hidden in my country - I think if it wasn't, Alcoholism would be treated earlier and more aggressively. I miss my father too, he has been gone for many years. Thankyou for reminding me of him.

Buena fortuna....

Great portrait. Cuts right to the quick of the matter. If there is a sneakier drug than alcohol out there, I'd like to know what it is. Nicotine would probably be a tie. Both will kill you in the end. I think your portrait has captured a man who's life was laid waste by Demon Alcohol, and it shows up in every pain filled crease and crevice on his face. His eyes look angry, but defeated and broken. Alcohol has imprisoned him and has beaten him into the ground. One can only pray that he seeks help for his addiction. Someone prayed for me, and it works.
