Description

I took this photo today. That is an apple tree in bloom.

It was very windy outside, the sky - grey. Low light, no sun, evening. I sharpened it a bit in Photoshop.

What do you think?

P.S. It smelled wonderful

Heh... first here! Beautiful shot Edite. Nice composition and definition. It's a little dark to me, but I know my monitor is somewhat dark anyway...

You've a good range of tones here too... Love it! +8

Good tones, well done black and white. I dont like that the flower or blossom is chopped off a little on the left, but other than that its a nice photo! :)

Very nice Edite. Sharp with good detial. Perhaps if the flower more more to the right so that there was more space in front of it, it would achieve a better composition. You kinda cropped off a part of the main flower. Maybe a bit dark on the main subject and I think this was caused by the exposure set by the camera due to the bright sky. The background is attracive. It has an abstract sort of look to it. Good choice to use black and white!

Good work Sweetie. I'll buy that microphone one day ... I promise!

Very crisp, Edite- you can even see the details in the petals, which I know is all to easy to 'blow out' with a white subject.
I think the previous comments about the picture being a little too dark are correct (don't worry Xris, not your monitor going funny) ;) I think the composition could be improved too if you'd moved a fraction to your left, to get more of the flower and more 'breathing space' in, as the others have mentioned.
However, I think the only thing that's actually bugging me is that the sky is brighter than the subject. I think moving over to capture more of the flower would also get more of that bright sky in, which isn't too good. I'm not sure what other angles would look like, but carefully choosing angles that flatter your subject best is what will help you achieve a truly memorable photo, I believe. ^_^

Keep snapping Edite- good to see you're experimenting with other artforms ^_^

Damn, Belinda already commented on the 'breathing room' and the sky being lighter than the flower....it's kind of distracting. Still to make the flower brighter may wash out all that great detail...

Check out Silence [EDITED] by  eowyn for a way that perhaps you could isolate the flower and push the sky back...or try the Melancholytron Filter by Flaming Pear. Here's a link. http://www.flamingpear.com/melancholytron.html

I disagree completely with those who say this is too dark. The exposure is near perfect with the details in focus against the bright sky. And still you managed to hold the details in the shadows. This is a difficult thing to pull off because this lighting situation can easily fool the camera's built-in light meter. For a shot like this, I would always bracket.

As far as the composition, yes maybe add a little more room on the left. But you do have a nice diagonal composition with light gradually getting darker toward the lower left. If you ask me, I think it's brilliant.
