Description

I started this piece over a year ago and only recently got around to re-opening it and finishing it.
The idea behind this was that the youth in the scene is undertaking a rite of passage, being sent out into the wastelands to prove he can survive a month in spite of the odds. In order to do so, he killed the giant lizard to mask his scent and provide shelter from larger predators. (Maybe I overthink these things, yeah? haha.)

Painter 8, Photoshop CS. No clue how many hours...but certainly well over 30.

Great idea and fantastic use of colors. The painting is so clean and vivid. My only criticism is not enough of the wastelands is shown.

Diane - Thanks! I thought about changing the blood a while back after I painted it...because I see what you mean. Then I got to thinking that it was kinda cool if the blood looked thicker like it does. But yeah, I see your point. Noted for next time at least...

this is amazing krista, the mood of this is fantastic, and the colors are so clean and soft... really good.
my only crit would be that the dead snake monser looks a bit too clean

but it really doesnt bothers me as it suiound like it does.. i really love thise painting

Darturbrain - Yeah, I see what you mean. I think my tendancy is generally to paint really clean, and I never get around to adding grime. Detail yes...but not the grittiness that would make it more real. It's something I'll keep in mind for future stuff. Interesting observation.

Sweet work, Krista! I love how you have achieved proportions in this piece. The perspective, detail, and colors and lighting are extremely well done in my opinion. I've just recently started adding dragons to my art. 7/7

Cool scene. This is the largest little snake I've ever seen!

I liked the two not so obvious points of warm & cold light. I didnt liked the plastic blood that much.
