Description

My daughter has a wooden train-set like this one...

Took about 12 hours to create, spread out over a week and a half...just for fun.

3D Studio Max 4 / Rendered with VRay

Thank you for your kind comments and votes - aside from the person who just voted a "2" without giving any reason why...hmmm...of course, I suppose then we'd know who YOU were. Ahhh, it's like junior high school all over again... :)

The chisels need a bit strong shadow... Look how dark the area under the train is compared to the area under the chisels. It kinda looks like they were cut and pasted into the pic...

Yeah, beautiful work. Looks like photo the (wooden?) floor surface never really gets sharp. why is that, It must come into focus at some point surely?

Ignore, though, my over critical comment: what you have created here is something to be proud of; not only becuase it looks like a photo, but also becuase the way you say, "just for fun," as if to say this image is not complete to the same level of preffesionalism you might usually persue. I'm am reading your comments correctly? If so: woah! (thumbup)

Thanks stoderifik. I say "just for fun" because it's been about 4 years (since Riven was released) since I did anything pre-rendered. We've been focused on real-time stuff since then and I was pretty much burned out on pre-rendered stuff anyway for a few years.... :) I'm happy to be "back in the saddle" - but I'm just doing it in my spare time after my family goes to bed.

As far as the blurry table goes, you've caught me! I used the same table texture on an early version of Gehn's desk about 6 years ago (you can see it on my website if you're curious). I really liked the texture, and I was sort of too lazy to make a new one, so I went with it. It's not as high-rez as I would like, but don't tell anyone!!! :)

Great realism. I like the use of the focal point.

Illumination is the one of most important thing in 3D modelling I think. But, as I see you already know this. :) So it's excellent. (But I'm not sure about the focus between train, cutter and the ground.) +6

This is awesome to me. I'm very new to 3D art. My only critique is that there's something about the tool -- maybe the shadows -- that doesn't look right.

Tools are little too new and clean. I like your style with those blurry speculars
