I think you should change the title to Resting Beauty ;)

Very nice, the "painterly style" is looking great, nice job! :)

Very nice! Magnific painterly style! You did a great job! I like particularly the skin tones and the whole palette you used on that one! The light and the reflections on the bed clothes are very well done ! great one (thumbup) !

head is a bit too big, i think (proportion), but the rest is very nice!!

beautiful, highlights and shadows on the face are really well done!

Thanks, everyone! Pangu, good catch. I wondered about that, too...but it seemed to work so I didn't change it. :p I am like that!

I like the painterly style and the lighting. Great style and very nice figure painting. Well done!

very nice! I wish I could see a little bit more space around her head and arm

Thanks, Juro and maxd. Maxd, thanks for the crit. I can see what you are saying. Definitely. :)

I like the style and the contrast .

But I think the space around face and her hair are merging, so you cant make out the hairs. hairs are way too flat without any reflection or flow.

rest is nice....:)

once again, your painter style is rockin... love the difference between this and the original

 09/20/05 @987

I like it very much. The composition, light and foreshortening (perspective). My only crit is that the folds of sheet don't look so natural.
I love how you did looking like traditional painting!

adiart: Good catch. Actually, that might be the one thing that has been bugging me about this piece. Thank YOU! I couldn't place it, but that was it. I meant to add some highlights to the hair to bring it out at some point and I just didn't do it. Food for next time. ;)

cypherx: Thanks!!

Avatar mol

 09/20/05 @989

MayYeo, the folds were done this way on purpose. if you study some of the older masters works they sometimes left the folds and surrounding *stuff* a bit messy. It helps bring out the actual subject. :) Thanks!!

Edited to add: That sounded a bit pompous of me. Please don't take my explanation as a 'slap' to your crit. I appreciate the comments...I really do.

Excellent painting. I'm afraid I don't know enough about painting to be able to give you anything constructive but I do like this.

In my opinion this wouldn't look out of place in a gallery!

Nice motion to the brush strokes in this one!

Avatar thienbao

 09/21/05 @264

Very very nice!! The layering of the brushstrokes in the cloth makes it look like it was painted very thickly with oils or acrylic or something, very kewl!!

Ursula: Thanks!!

thienbao: You got it! ;)

lovely

definately, the sheets need refinement... they dont look like sheets but of color swirls. take a look at some charcoal drawings that are of cloth, to see what i am saying, the difference.

the body is just lovely, good expression. +8/10

But I like your brush work. Nice colors and lightening

beautiful light and shadow , do you paint with live models ?

Avatar reozen

 09/24/05 @168

the bed looks like some kind of bone..

Avatar mol

 09/24/05 @242

Jimmy: Yes, I do...but I usually use oils. I don't have any oil work to show because a) I am not as good with oils. Color has been a big problem for me. I can paint a great portrait in say...burnt umber and turps...but as soon as I start mixing colors LOOK OUT! Its more of a value conflict than anything else. :) Oh, well, but that is why I am in several figure classes and about 8 hours worth of oil study with a local impressionist here. b) I just cant take a great picture of one of my paintings. I don't understand it. I never can get the lighting quite right to show the true color.

Next week I am taking my laptop to paint a live model for the first time. Should be interesting and if it turns out well...I shall post it.

Thanks!

reozen: Haven't heard that one yet!

Really beautiful work here. I love the expressive strokes and the color scheme. I look forward to seeing your work with the laptop on site.

Believe it or not, I actually tried that during my last semester. It came out OK but it made the model uncomfortable, I think she had some unshakable paranoia that her picture was being broadcast online. Good luck! great job.

it would look ten times better if her nipple wasnt popping out because it seems overboard...like she has ice on her nipple

Avatar mol

Thanks...both of you...and yes, I agree...the nipple was a bit much. More of an oversight than anythign else. That's what I get for posting it so fast. =)
