Something about this I really like, I think its the overall posture of the soldier in relation to his clothes...well done!! (thumbup) +7
You should try experimenting with adding more vibrant shades in with the water colours (for example try using blue and reds aswell as the normal darker shades of the items u r painting- just a suggestion..), u will be surprised how easy it is to get more deeper shades aswell as other colours :)

Hmm, my teacher said the same thing... I should give it a try then. :) Thank you!

I like the shadow lines on his clothing, give it that life like feel. I would love to see this with a background alltough it is fine as it is

Thank you flowjoe. :) Unfortunately for you and all the other people who wish to see backgrounds on such pieces, I don't like to have backgrounds on those character designs. I want to keep only the character in focus. The only thing I tend to do, is add a shadow on the ground, to attach the character to it, and maybe sometimes have a detail like a plant or something up from the gound. But I should try different things, so maybe one of these days, I'll try adding a background after all. ;)

Anatomy looks ok...but dont u think this guy need some more muscles , big shoulders? his right leg looks bit odd and that sword looks bit small. i'd like to see more dynamic pose...since its related to WAR, and yes some vibrant colours too.

I hope im not expecting too much :|

Lol, no you're not. I don't want to give him more muscles than that, even if he is a king. Unless you think he looks unnaturally frail, that is... Tell me?
Yeah, you are right about the leg. I see that now. About the pose, this isn't during battle or anything, just him looking at the sword while preparing for it. But I should do a dynamic battle pose soon, those are so much fun to do! :) And maybe I should make the sword longer the next time. :| It would certainly look more... royal. ;)
Thanks!

yay good work Janne! I agree with everything that has been said and.. hmm now that I think of it.. since he's a king it would be an idea to give him a more majestetic look. Right now the clothes are hanging sort of casual on his body, he's a rather thin man with fair shoulders. He's a KING, if you "blew" up his chest a bit and made him more robust(clothes as well), it would give him the undefeatable look -that such an important person such as a king should have. ;)

Overall, a very good watercolour. (thumbup)

Thank you Sandra. :) You are very right. I suppose this was what Shyam was refering to as well... I think I should draw this one again, with a more majestic pose...

Kings need fancy clothes and of course the big well known red cape of about 40 kvadratmeter ;D I like it a lot, +8

might wanna give him a more kingly sword too, this one is just a short sword, and the hilt is too thin, making it not very usefull for defending his wrist and hand. the chain mail should also protect his neck and head, and then the helmet be placed over it, his neck is woefully under protected, and just asking to be cut.

good water colours, but i reckon you should go and look at some reference of armour and weapons, your art will benefit from it :)

Nice work Janne! mmmh i have a "lazy" idea... instead to change the whole picture ... adjusting shoulders...chest...clothes, the sword (O_O who can fear tha sword?) and so on ... just change the description ... you can say it's not a king and that the king will come with the next artwork...seems more cheap and quick for now. I like clothes and belts.. i say always the same thing but a nice background would improve really the overall picture. (thumbup)
(and come on ppl ...al this crits...and so few votes)

i like it because he doesn't seem inflated like most comic hero's, where he doesn't look like a king, he does look like some one who is not sure weither or not he's ready for battle...

A very smart study Jane. I particularly like the 'gravity' involved in all of this. I can see and 'feel' the weight of the leather belts, as I can the chain-mail and coarse, heavy fabrics. A good natural stance accepts all of this extra weight realistically.

Excellent Jane +9
