Server Maintenance

We were down for a while there as the site moved servers. Although the ones we had did their job, they were getting a bit old. In fact so old that they have now been replaced by just one shiny new server.

At this moment we're still transferring some of the images. If you updated your avatar during the last week the old one may show until the current one has transferred.

So sorry for being gone for a while, but we're back and everything seems to be working just fine. Should you come across anything unexpected, do let us know.

Update: We're done moving images to the new server too.

Since when does Microsoft sell servers?

As you can see on http://www.gfxartist.com/about/about_gfx we're running on a Dell PowerEdge server with Redhat OS, Apache, PHP, Mysql etc

Seems like your dns is a little screwed up. You've got the new server IP for the web server, but the old IP for the images server. Does the problem persist after you restart your web browser/computer?

I have the same problem.. I'll try rebooting ^^

edit: And that didn't help.

If you're running Windows ME and newer, bring up a command prompt, and type the following to flush your computer's DNS cache:

ipconfig /flushdns

Most likely your computer has cached old DNS entries. Cable and DSL providers are also guilty of caching DNS entries and content, due to the nature of their systems. This usually gets purged out after a week...or more.

I have the same problem at home... sigh... Why do they update the www dns record, but not the images dns record??? I set the timeout to 5 minutes to ensure a quick and smooth transfer, and then you get this... Curse you internet provider!

Soo.. I tried flushing, and it didn't work. But you're saying it just takes a while then? Or am I stuck with this shit? lol

Also, I can't view any of the posted artworks, haha.. Says the site is under maintenance ;D

Ok.. got it fixed at home... What I did was:
  • Reboot the ADSL modem/router (unplug/plug power connection)
  • Flushed my DNS cache (start->run and type "ipconfig /flushdns";)
  • Restarted firefox (file -> exit, double click firefox icon)
If this doesn't work... Blame your internet provider for being incompetent bastards or something of your own choice...

Avatar klungsama

So, just do what Martin wrote.. reboot your internet modem AND your router, and you'll be fine :)

Very strange. At home I don't even get www.gfxartist.com. Maybe it's because of the SOA refresh interval being too low? I don't know if ISP's take measures against it to save traffic?

How much longer? Some parts of the site are still down for me, but most works as normal.

EDIT: I'm good :)

Hhm...not sure if this belongs here or if I'm the only one experiencing this, but I've been having problem with logging in today. I've been logged out automatically everytime I click on an artwork and for me to actually comment/vote, I have to relog.
