Adobe Freehand goes EOL

According to Adobe's John Nack FreeHand has reached it's End of Life:

"After a long and storied career, Adobe (neé Altsys, Aldus, and Macromedia) FreeHand has reached the end of its development road. The application has not been revised since Macromedia released MX nearly four years ago, after which the company removed FreeHand from the Studio product line. Adobe has created an FAQ (PDF) that explains the details of the decision not to rev FreeHand, talks about Illustrator CS3 features added to make FreeHand users more comfortable, and more."

Current FreeHand customers are eligible for an upgrade to Illustrator CS3, which has been priced at $199,-. Adobe will also provide support for customers making the jump to Illustrator through the "Switch to Illustrator" section on Adobe.com, and specific content within the Illustrator Design Center.

It's a similar to Illustrator in some ways, so it's pretty much a program for creating vector graphics.

what about director? freehand was totally expected cuz illustrator is much better... but now director don't understand why they didn't made a new version, unless they're exchanging it for flash but director is still a good use.

I liked freehand, a lot more responsive and faster than illustrator, maybe those updates are in Illustrator CS3, which I do not like.

Sorry acida, Director is dead too.

So is Adobe ImageReady and quite frankly I'm surprised Fireworks survived the CS3 cut.

Freehand is great,.. I have always worked with it,... but I saw it coming, unfortunately. It is so much faster drawing vector drawings,... but I guess I have to get used to Illustrator,... damn ;)

Here are some reactions of harcore freehand users.

Illustrator has always been an inferior product compared to the ease of use of Freehand...One statement...typeis MUCH harder to use in Illustrator.

Hey Adobe what about a Freehand to Indesign import for those of us that have made THAT switch...

it was predictable that the greatness of illustrator would come above freehand, i mean, freehand is (was) a nice vector software but illustrator is the bomb! and with all the new compatibilities between flash and illustrator and photoshop im suprised that fireworks isnt dead to.
