Announcement: GFXartist Will Go OfflineGFXartist, created and hosted by Brothers in art, will go offline. Brothers in art is closing its doors and with it all services it has provided will stop. This includes the hosting and maintenance of GFXartist's server, which BIA will no longer be able to care for. It is no secret that Brothers in art has barely been involved in the day-to-day operations of this site after 2005. We did however take care of the financial and operational side of GFXartist. While it is no longer the shiny, lively art community it once was, it is still inhabited by a group of great people that still enjoy calling GFXartist their home. Especially to you we apologize that we can no longer provide the support to keep GFXartist online. Yesterday we canceled all subscriptions so they won't be automatically renewed. Recent subscribers have been refunded. Longer running subscriptions will be refunded for the time between now and the end of their subscription period. We encourage all members that have images and content at GFXartist that is valuable to them to copy this content. The GFXartist server will go offline on February 29th, 2012. Some of you might play with the idea to continue GFXartist. Serious offers can be sent to gfxartist :at: brothersinart.com. If the domain and website sources are transferred, they will be delivered as-is. Brothers in art will not be available to move the site to a new environment or support its code. Show us you know what you're doing and we'll consider it. |

Nothing ever stays the same but nevertheless, there are some things we wish we could keep and I guess our time and experiences here will be some of those.
Many of us will keep in touch elsewhere, on Facebook, other art communities, and through various other ways.
I can be contacted at : thrumyeyez@gmail.com or

For all I have crossed paths with here, THANK YOU!
I couldn't have asked for a better place to spend the past 8+ years!!

I loved this site from the first view... and will honestly say that it helped me quit MMORPG games (everyone knows how addictive they are) and beside that it helped me to start drawing again and improve my photo skills.
I do hope it will go on!

Having that said, over the years, I have learned a lot in this art community; the quality of the feedback has been in many cases really constructive, insightful and helpful and it has made me a significanty better artist.
But most importantly I have met some of the most inspiring artists here, made friends and I have gotten to know quite a few interesting people. GFX is part of who I am today.
Brian, I support you
CHEERS my friends, it has been a blast!
Please keep on painting, photographing, sketching, drawing, modeling or whatever other creative activity and just have plain 'ol fun

Although I created an account very recently, I've been visiting this site for about 10 years. I will really miss GFXArtist. There's no other site like this on the web; Deviantart has a very different feeling.
Thank you very much to the people who built and kept alive this website.

I haven't been around GFX for some years, but for the time I was here and active I can see a definite improvement in my work, for part of which GFX is certainly responsible. I'm thankful for everyone who took the time to comment on and critique my work, good and bad.
In commemoration of the final month of GFX I've republished my entire gallery (even though much of it is quite embarrassing now). All I can say is, wow ... over the years I've uploaded some truly awful stuff. If you feel like looking through the earlier uploads, hopefully you'll get some enjoyment at my expense

I've found some new friends here and I've learned a lot, too.
Perhaps we could have a GFXartist get-together some day, but I'm a bit too busy these days to even think about when that could happen.

When I joined the site I was basically a snapshot shooter who knew very little about the technical side of photography....... and a special thanks to Patrick, Gary, Steve Davis, Ms Michelle,Brian, and our dearly departed friend Carlos.
Your willingness to pass on your knowledge as well as encouragement. has been invaluable to me.
01/28/12 @089
We are in no way finished yet! We have a month to save it and hopefully it is still possible to do so.
Again I must say, you have all been what has made this site so great!

I had hoped to spend some time this year participating actively and had already put aside a few images ready for the BIG event - Now the era is coming to a close, I feel a deep sense of melancholy - It was through these pages several years back that Maridol and I were able to feel connected even when continents apart... GFX artist provided us a platform within which we could still share our hobby.
Many of you who have passed comment on this page assisted my growth as a photographer, lessons were learned, techniques taken on board, perspectives altered... Recently and most flattering of all, somebody from a company I am contracted to by my employer saw a few of my more recent photographs - She was so impressed that a weekend was organised with Maridol and I whereby we could share some of the knowledge gained over the years (ironically, this person was also taking a paid course held by a professional). So in part, the knowledge we have all gained here will still remain alive for years to come as each of us passes on random snippets when opportunities children request.
Finally, to the people who have made this site such that I felt so compelled to jibber jabber... Thank you (and that goes for you to Carlos whom I sure follows us all in spirit).

Owners not being active during the last couple of years. Difficult to keep us alive with that in mind.
Credits to Gary (ThruMyEyez) who has been supervising the site since the owners took off...
And to Carlos (RIP) who showed not only a great talent in art but human sides that made an imprint in many of us.
So many talents have learned so much from this place. Lots of new great friends made here!
Would be good if we all could have a common meeting place until we find our new home:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/GFX-Artist/200147223413644
...so that we at least won't loose track of each other in the cyberspace!
What made gfx so great was really its wonderful people!
You will all be missed!
Shutting it down would be such a waste...

This forum was one of the first places I've started to share my art. I got a great exposure from it and I want to thank all the admins, technicians and of course members as well, for your help and your input.
My best wishes!!

GFX was one of the few good sites for this kind of artistic ilustration and such stuff.
I deleted my gallery long ago, pissed off by some other members but i enjoyed the days before that, i believe i evenhad one of my drawings chosen for the elite gallery but i'm not sure, it was several years ago. The thing is i'm no loger interested in having a "success" online hence i wouldn't put so much effort in any site like i did those days but i'll remeber the good artists i knew and those who were friendly to me.
I even remember i started i fight in the forums when suggesting members should post their personal web adresses in that topic just in case the site was dhut down. It was pure irony then and others were very critical but now it is a reality.
Sad and funny at the same time.
Also i didn't know Mandanaple died, i remember he ws not active for a long while and other users tried to contact him, now i see why.
So good bye GFXARtist.com.

Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.

Life takes you to paths you never imagine and mine is been in the so materialistic

GFX was a big part of my life, got me into digital art to begin with, and introduced me to some great people of whom allowed me the privilege to bear witness to the personal (and some others, professional) growth.
Despite the circumstances of my departure years ago, I am truly sad that it will shut down since it still is a light for inspiration for so many. As upsetting as this shut down is, the unfortunate reality is that it would be a bigger tragedy to let it continue in its current state. Those who took on the mantle of admin should have the infrastructure and support to maintain the site and reflect user inputs for evolving functionality. Instead it's internal mechanisms have become a snapshot of what a premiere web community was 7 years ago.
I myself will take the opportunity to let it serve as an additional reminder that nothing is forever and to take what time we can to appreciate what we have and with whom we have to share it.
The internet isn't that big of a place, Facebook, Google+, and of course multiple art sites help make it smaller so that past, present, and future artists can find inspiration and avenues of collaboration to make this world truly a more beautiful place to be. Thanks to the founders for giving what you could, and pulling the proverbial band-aid off as slow as possible. Good luck in your individual futures and who knows, maybe you'll make a 2.0 one day.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
