So you want some pixel pushing?

I think just about everyone has at some point been captured by the small pixel sprites of those oldschool arcade fighters and rpg games. For those who want to get started or want to further into sprite and icon design, here are some fine resources.

First of all the Pixelation board at swoo.net. This is where are the pixelpushers hang out and show off their sprites and icons. Enjoy the challenges and pixelwars. The Official Pixel Art Resource Thread is by far the most valuable thread on the board. Get all your links to tutorials, tools and sprite archives here.

Zoggles has a Pixelation Image Storage. Here you can find tutorials and records of pixelwars. Registered members also have access to all the stored pixel imagery. Make sure you also check out Zoggles project 'Villager' an online multiplayer strategy game. Now firmly in progress with some of the most talented pixelers from around the world working on the various graphics within the game.

Oh and for those who read and got excited about RPGmaker 2000, make sure you read Tsugumo's 'So You Want To Be A Pixel Artist?' tutorial covering game sprites and analysis of 'the greats'.

Steve at Spritedomain.net has three tutorials on fighter sprites (like streetfighter characters). Check them out and browse through his creations while you're there.

If this isn't enough for you, read through the official pixel art resource thread, there are lots and lots of interesting links there. Wether you will us this knowledge for site graphics, icons or game design, happy pixelpushing either way.
