Comic Book Lighting Tutorial

Freelance digital artist Anthony (John) Rauch has posted a brief tutorial illustrated with several in progress shots that talks about how to create realistic lighting (or the comic equivalent anyway) in your coloring:

"The comic industry is a business of exaggeration. This applies to writers, pencilers, inkers, and even colorists. So when your coloring, it's important not only to apply these concepts, but really add life to them at the same time. The following is an example of just that. If you'd like to follow along and try this for yourself, this line art can be found at pensnpixels.com in the "How to" area in the forum."

Wow! Thanks for posting this Dave. I had no idea it was on here until I noticed my site was getting some hits from this address. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it. I also completed another tutorial from the same original drawing about digital inking in Illustrator 10. Anyone interested can see that here: http://www.pensnpixels.com/tutorials/digink.htm

I'm not that thrilled with the shiny, CGed look of coloured comics these days :( I miss the non-saturated colouring of old, they don't overpower the lineart and the inking, and are actually pleasant to look at.

This was a nice tutorial, though, certainly something to try later ^_^ thanks for sharing!
