'Illustration' seemed to mislead a lot of people so we defined it now as drawing, as opposed to painting. Vector illustrations resemble drawing more than painting so they go in the Drawing category. As for subcategories. I'm confident that most artworks can find their place. We no longer seperate on genre or technique, simply on subject. Sci-fi and fantasy works also feature a character, or a building, or an animal/nature. Define the main subject and simply find the appropriate subcategory. The choice doesn't have to be spot on, but has to make sense.
