Nvidia launches Quadro FX 4000 and Gelato renderer softwareShortly after the launch of the GeForce 6800 Nvidia has announced the Quadro FX 4000. The 4000 is also based on the NV40 core and just like it's little brother it contains 256 megabytes of DDR3 video memory and a 256 bit memory bus which allows bandwith rates up to 32 GB / sec. According to Nvidia the Quadro FX 4000 features "a revolutionary new architecture with 2x the geometry and fill rate, 5x the hardware pixel read-back performance and 1.25x the memory bandwidth of previous generation workstation graphics". According to it's website PNY already has a Quadro FX 4000 in their line up but a retail date and pricing are unknown at the moment, but expect to pay a lot of money if you really want to have this baby in your workstation when it hits the stores You can find more information about the Quadro FX 4000 on Nvidia's site. Together with the Quadro FX 4000 Nvidia also announced the direct availability of their brandnew shiny Gelato rendering software for Linux (Red Hat Linux 7.2 or higher), with a Windows version of the software shipping soon. Gelato is especially developed and optimized for use with the whole Quadro FX product line of videocards since it takes advantage of the features supplied by the Quadro FX GPU and features cinema quality graphics, flexible shading and lightning and a design which will fit in your existing graphics pipeline without any problems. The price of a Gelato license is set at $ 2750 USD.
