Mobility Fire GL 9000

ATI Technologies announced -- and has started shipping -- the Mobility Fire GL 9000 processor, a new chip designed for laptops that's based on the company's Mobility Radeon 9000 processor. The new workstation-class processor is designed for game developers and CAD users, and includes the following features:

  • Four parallel rendering pipelines
  • Support for up to 64MB of 128-bit DDR on-board integrated memory
  • Immediate mode interface and overlay planes
  • Support for up to 2048 X 1536 pixels in 32-bit color
  • ATI's Smoothvision technology, which enhances image quality by removing jagged edges and bringing out fine texture detail
  • Support for version 1.4 programmable pixel and vertex shaders
  • ATI's power management technology, Powerplay 3.0
  • ATI's Hydravision for multimonitor support
  • ATI's Zoom, which allows users to move back and forth to a preferred resolution at the click of a button
  • An improved ratiometric expansion filter that provides better-looking text and 2D graphics
  • Frame modulation, which makes 18-bit LCD panels look like 24-bit panels.
  • The first laptop to feature the Mobility Fire GL 9000 is the Compaq Evo N800w from HP.
