Mobility Fire GL 9000

ATI Technologies announced -- and has started shipping -- the Mobility Fire GL 9000 processor, a new chip designed for laptops that's based on the company's Mobility Radeon 9000 processor. The new workstation-class processor is designed for game developers and CAD users, and includes the following features:

Four parallel rendering pipelines
Support for up to 64MB of 128-bit DDR on-board integrated memory
Immediate mode interface and overlay planes
Support for up to 2048 X 1536 pixels in 32-bit color
ATI's Smoothvision technology, which enhances image quality by removing jagged edges and bringing out fine texture detail
Support for version 1.4 programmable pixel and vertex shaders
ATI's power management technology, Powerplay 3.0
ATI's Hydravision for multimonitor support
ATI's Zoom, which allows users to move back and forth to a preferred resolution at the click of a button
An improved ratiometric expansion filter that provides better-looking text and 2D graphics
Frame modulation, which makes 18-bit LCD panels look like 24-bit panels.
The first laptop to feature the Mobility Fire GL 9000 is the Compaq Evo N800w from HP.
