Nomination Turmoil

The June 2005 elite nomination has been surrounded by several issues from copyright violation to votefraud. While certain issues have surfaced in the forums, I think it's important everyone understands what's going on and what happens next.

---- Update ----------------
Please resubmit your votes if you have voted for either Maham or Ei-en. See the news post: Nomination adjusted.
--------------------------------

The recap
The trouble started with elite nominee Maham who undeservingly got recognition as a skilled photographer by submitting photographs of others to the galleries. The artwork was taken from several truly talented photographers at DigitalPhotoContest.com including Anupam Pal, Heather McFarland, Bob Jones, Mary-Ella Keith and Jim Zuckerman. We have obviously banned her from GFXartist.com and removed all the artwork.

A while ago one of the members who already had a troubled history at GFXartist signed up again, Ei-en. Ei-en was disqualified last year in the May nominations due to incorporating pieces of other peoples art in his work without giving any credit. After a few talks then and recently when he activated his account again I gave him the chance to do it right. While the artwork we submitted may all be his own, he operated a rather large amount of extra accounts to rig the current elite nomination. Since this is also unacceptable we had no other option but to suspend his account again and for good.

Besides these two issues, some more questionable vote behavior surfaces. After inquiries this was traced back to a few enthausiastic fans of an artist. Since the effect was kept to a minimal no further actions were taken.

Lastly thedorman seems to have unpublished his works for yet unknown reasons. I am currently trying to find out why.

While we normally try to avoid public 'executions', many questions have been raised around Maham and Ei-en. While they may very well be lovely people, they have abused the site and deceived the public. By putting this out in the open we hope people come to understand that such behavior will do you more harm than good.

What happens next
With all these issues now behind us and resolved. The question is, what happens with the nomination. Many votes have been cast on the members who no longer have active accounts. I'm teaming up with our programmer Martijn to see if we can completely restart the elite nomination. The plan is to at least remove the suspended members and release the votes that were given to them. We hope to complete this today, please stay tuned.

Thanks for the update guys. It's good to see this posted on the front page, as sometiimes these issues are solved via PM's and SayWhat leaving those who contemplate these schemes to think they can get away with it as not much news is put out about people getting caught.

oh, did you ever get my PM about my 'accidental click' for the drawing catagory?? I meant to click on Ei-en's profile to see all of his drawing work, and voted instead. I halted any further voting, and was hoping to get that fixed, as I meant to vote for someone else.

Now that the idiot is gone, I guess I'll get it (my vote) back anyway.

What a situation. Still I think it is very positive that Martin gave Ei-en another chance, a very open and positive attitude. I am sorry that you guys have had all that trouble.

I think that's a desicion wel made.
Although public "executions" aren't really fun at all (for the site-owners ánd for the guests), in these kind of situations it's the only way to clear things up, and make the situation understandable.

Good luck with the next round of actions regarding the recount :)

Regards,
Joram

pity about ei-en, i liked 'his' art alot:(

It would've been worse if the admins left it up to the members to publicly execute.

I'm quite new to gfx, but I must say here that I love the team's work. Such behaviors from "artists" are not acceptable, they just kill what I care most about Art: creativity.

Congrats.

I think knowing the Dutch mentality a little bit, it is not very common for people to drag their dirty laundry in public. But I think you guys did the right thing.

so if rules are made, then they must be followed. Period.

personally I hate copyrights, I think everything in this universe and in our minds is already copyrighted to God. we are just messengers.

I know it sounds stupid, sorry about that., but I don't support cheaters.

trying to be someone, makes you no one.

So there's my first post on this forum outta the way.
Good to be here and take care everyone.

I can´t believe there are still dipsh*ts around who do this kind of stuff - and twice! Makes me wonder why do they need the attention so much...

wow...is being elite really so important to some people?
I still can't believe how extremely people act when it comes to something like elite status.

I am pretty shocked to say the least..

It's good to know that abusing the rules and guidelines will not be tolerated. I can't believe Ei-en would try bending the rules AGAIN. I loved his works but the GFX team was very fair with with him and made the right decision. As for Maham, everything has been said.

Keep up the good work Martin!

Well it's unfortunate to hear of things like this, but I'm glad to hear you guys watch for -- and don't tolerate -- these kinds of behavior. It gives me a little bit more confidence as someone who wants to participate sincerely in what generally seems to be a great community of talented and positive people.

May those who were banned learn their lesson and grow up a little.

im just glad that you guys can spot people like that, its not good taking other peoples art. even all the people who double register to vote for themselves..wheres the fun in that? it takes all the fun out of being competitive.

Ei-En's behaviour is annoying, at least. Some people will just never learn - art/illustration/design isn't about elite status, especially about elite status you got by voting yourself a couple of times..

Avatar Byonder

 07/07/05 @897

Hah hah...I pop back on to see if anything's improved and look...more GFX "elite" drama.

Ei-en more than deserved a perma-ban...how many times was he going to be allowed back? What was this now, three or four times he's cheated with paint-overs/vote rigging? Just goes to show you that you can wait a while for the member base to change and then pull the same exact crap and it'll sell every single time...

What a joke...

Avatar ThruMyEyez

And some members continue to be a fountain of positive inspiration!!

Avatar Byonder

 07/08/05 @058

And other members continue to churn out the same uninspired, boring work...

All the photographers works are starting to look the same...it's hard to tell who's is who's anymore...

Avatar ThruMyEyez

 07/08/05 @063

And it's hard to understand ones who dislike this place so much continuing to return.........

Avatar Byonder

 07/08/05 @098

This is just a guess, but I would imagine it’s not because they don’t like the place, but actually because they don’t like what people have turned it into...and perhaps foolishly, return to see if anything’s improved (but unfortunately, see that nothing has)...

Elite, GFXartist sponsor ThruMyEyez,  Byonder... do we need to separate you two?

OK - joking apart - its a pity that things have to come to this - one would think that after being offered a couple of chances, a message would have hit home and common sense would prevail - but then again, the term "common sense" is an oxymoron!

As for the GFX team - guys, its a hard thing to do, but it has to be done! Not the most pleasant thing to do - - but given the circumstances, that is the only thing you can do!
